OVERVIEW

Oldham Lacrosse Club comprises several separate but related offerings that provide student-athletes with year-round playing opportunities, training, and team-building activities.

The Oldham Lacrosse Club aims to run parallel with the Oldham County School District and be a feeder program for high school lacrosse programs around the city.  Lacrosse is considered a Spring Sport.  The OLC divides the year into Spring Season, Summer Break, and Fall and Winter Training.  At the Youth Level, OLC participates in the Louisville Scholastic Lacrosse League at King Louie’s Sports Complex.

  • Spring Season (this is the formal season): Runs late Feb (Presidents Day)–End of May (Memorial Day typically). At the Middle School and High School levels, the season coincides with the KHSAA High School Sports seasonal calendar.  High school games are generally held twice a week and culminate with playoffs and a state championship.  Middle School Games are on Mondays (7/8) and Wednesdays (5/6), and each grade has a playoff and LSLL Championship.  We will practice 2-3 times a week in addition to specialized camps and training as needed, and we will play our games as dictated above.
  • Every year, OLC hosts a Spring Thaw Event to kick off the Middle School Season at South Oldham High School, where we invite boys and girls teams to play during the day.

Additionally, we will schedule a home and away “play day” with teams from Louisville and Lexington.   More information/dates will be released as we get closer to the Spring season.

  • Summer Break usually runs from Memorial Day through July. Club lacrosse season typically takes place in the summer, but rising eighth graders can travel with the high school coaches as a JV team.  This season allows HS players and coaches to work with and plan for the future HS team.  For players, summer offers a chance to experiment with different positions and move into leadership positions within their club and school.
  • There are numerous local, regional, and state clubs  (L4 lacrosse, Louisville Kings, Commonwealth Kings, Mingos, etc.) at the middle and high school levels.  Let us know if you want to play for one of them in the summer; we are happy to get you involved.
  • OLC works with South Oldham and Trinity HS coaching staff to put on a regional travel team for those boys not playing for a formal club in the summer. Joe Richie will provide this information for those interested in late Winter or early spring.  This opportunity is typically only open to rising 8th graders and first-year high school students.

Finally, at the youth level, this culminates a season’s worth of hard work and a well-deserved rest period if they are not participating in travel club lacrosse.  We encourage all those who are not in high school sports to play other sports in the summer and go out and be kids!

  • Fall/Winter Training – Youth levels. Practices are held beginning in late September and running through December so as not to conflict with traditional fall sports. This will alternate between practices and games and help the team build stick skills and player connections.  Players of all ages and abilities will work together to improve during this time.
  • Fall and Winter training will be on Sundays from 2–5 p.m. at SOHS and on Wednesdays from 5 p.m.–6:30pm at the Buckner YMCA. Different age groups will practice at different times. Information will be forthcoming as we get closer to the indoor practice times but we will try to practice outside as much as possible before it gets too cold.
